Bikkuri Bass is elated to announce the release of the debut album from Stavhyn, Stavhyn is Dead. Long Live Starvhyn., available everywhere on July, 23rd 2021.
Stavhyn is Dead. Long Live Starvhyn. is an introspective collection of songs about queer love, gender identity and the complexities of friendship. Over a fusion of synthpop and electropop, Starvhyn brings a series of dancefloor-ready hooks and melancholic, dance-in-your-room anthems. The debut includes collaborations with an international grouping of some of indie-pop’s finest. The host of outstanding LGBTQIA+ features include Frida Vamos, Lea Heart, Claire Michelle, Emmet Michael, TINTIN, and Kuchimatyl. This album follows on the heels of their lead single Prism with Frida Vamos, which donated all proceeds to the Trevor Project & Transgender Law Center, as well as singles Superhero and Valhalla.
Starvhyn is Derek Rogers and Ryan Bryant. They have been writing music together since 2010. Drawing heavily from contemporary pop and 80s synth-pop, Starvhyn brings the catchy hooks, bouncing bass, and bright synths. What sets Starvhyn apart from its peers is the music’s depth. Sonic textures and dense compositions are given just as much weight as memorable songwriting.
"Starvhyn... haven’t let different time zones and countries get in the way of creating great music." - analoguetrash
"It has been so long since I've heard bands sounding like this." -Cloudberry Records
